Returning to work – what do you look for when returning to work? Dears? What’s important?

Returning to work after a long period of time can be daunting.  For women particularly, if they have taken a long period off to raise a family; confidence and self-worth can feel at an all-time low.

K.A.G. are an all-female team and I think that really helps us to understand the juggling act that many mothers are facing when they want to have a career too.

When I was looking to return to work after 7 years out, I considered all manner of different roles to bring money in including teaching assistant work, waitressing, admin, cleaning and dog boarding – all because they were flexible enough to work around a family.

Yet, to be successful in recruitment, you really need to have a unique skill set. But so many women who have been in recruitment before having a family, don’t think that they could go back…

Why?

The long hours, the stress, the unpredictability…

Yet, when we break down what recruitment is – candidates and clients – it is possible to give your all to one or the other.  This is where I think the traditional Recruitment Consultant role goes wrong because they are expected to do all of it and to an extremely high standard.

In a few months, I will be looking to recruit for my team in Business Development. So, I thought now was a good time with the kids back at school to pre-empt this in the minds of any disillusioned ex rec-cons to see if they would like to tap back into those incredible inter-personal, multitasking and organisational skills!

What’s important to you when you return to work?  What do you look for in a company?
