I was talking to a client the other day about a historic success story of a female high-flyer in a male dominated industry.

The sector was in fire and security, which in the early 00s was notoriously male.  In a team of 10 field salespeople, there was only one woman.

This woman was by far the most successful in the team.  She was excellent with people, had a high conversion ratio and had an amazing work ethic.

Many in the team attributed her success down to the fact that people felt more comfortable talking to a woman about their security concerns after a burglary than a man.  Yet, they continued with he same model for 10 more years!

Diversity in those days wasn’t so much of a hot topic as it is now but standing out from her competitors in addition to hard work was certainly to her advantage.

This story is as relevant then as it is now.

Diversity and inclusion provide so much more depth to teams.  Teams with female leaders are proven to make more innovative and effective decisions.  Research shows that businesses with gender-diverse teams experience higher profitability and productivity.  And women in senior positions inspire future generations, encouraging more women to pursue leadership roles.

Here at K.A.G. we champion helping women get into male-dominated spaces and have numerous case studies of the improvements that we have made to homogenous departments.
